Your sovereignty

I was just looking through my gmail inbox, at all the correspondences I received these past two months. Who woulda thought in such a bad time one could even find a decent job, let alone receive 3 job offers, especially with grades like mine? It all comes back to one thing: God.

For a moment in time, I let my pride go to my head. For a second, I thought it was my own strength, I thought it was my abilities. I thought I did better than all the other candidates, "scoring" better comments from the supervisors. It's so easy to just get caught up in thinking that it was by my own strength.

Truth is, it was God's favor that poured down. Everything came from God. Everything comes from God.
(Okay, this is gonna be quite funny, but nevertheless, it doesn't, for a second, lessen the extent of what God did.)

1) A stomachache 45 mins before the selection round that gave me the runs. I had to find a toilet in a shopping mall nearby in the midst of traveling. Because of the stomachache, I reached the place just on time. And I was the last person to reach. Which meant that I was the last person for every task we did with the kid. Which meant I could observe everyone's mistakes and learn from them. (i.e. extract all essence and give the best that I could)

2) My intelligence, my abilities and my passions in life. All comes from God. Psalm 139 says that I am fearfully and wonderfully made by God Himself.

About abilities:
"Many studies have revealed that the average person possesses from 500 to 700 different skills and abilities - far more than you realize. For instance, your brain can store 100 trillion facts. Your mind can handle 15,000 decisions a second, as is the case when your digestive system is working. Your nose can smell up to 10,000 different odors. Your touch can detect an item 1/25,000th of an inch thick, and your tongue can taste one part of quinine in 2 million parts of water. You are a bundle of incredible abilities, an amazing creation of God... Every ability can be used for God's glory." (taken from "The Purpose-Driven Life")

Yes, it is my abilities. We should not deny that. In fact, we should celebrate. But UNTO GOD'S GLORY. Because He's the one who gave it all to us. He created us with such amazing abilities for life. For His work. For His kingdom. We should not be ashamed of the abilities we have, neither do we have to act modestly. We should be so thankful for what He has woven us with, that we no longer care about comparing our abilities, but celebrate one another's uniqueness, because we all have different strengths and weaknesses, that serve to complement one another.

About passions:
"God has given each of us a unique emotional "heartbeat" that races when we think about the subjects, activities, or circumstances that interest us. We instinctively care about some things and not about others. These are clues to where you should be serving. Another word for heart is passion. There are certain subjects you feel passionate about and others you couldn't care less about... When you were growing up, you may have discovered that you were intensely interested in some subjects that no one else in your family cared about. Where did those interests come from? They came from God. God had a purpose in giving you these inborn interests... Don't ignore your interests. Consider how they might be used for God's glory." (taken from "The Purpose-Driven Life")

3) Boldness to ask questions, boldness to speak up in front of people whom I don't know - Just felt God's strength and encouragement to do so especially that day. Even though I'm not an introvert, I don't exactly like public-speaking. But I just felt the need to speak up quite many times that day and I wasn't scared to do so. Why? Hahah God lor. I am a lion mah. My name speaks for itself (RAWRRRRR).

4) Favor with supervisors - If you follow the Holy Spirit's prompting in your heart, and with everything falling into place because of what God has done, wouldn't His favor just pour forth?

5) A natural inclination of just wanting to play with kids (hahahaha). I told ya I'm a kid who never got tired of playing. Hahaha. And most probably cos God put me in a family of 5 kids.

When God wants to use you for His kingdom, and when He sees your willingness and availability, it doesn't matter whether you have the abilities required (because God already gave them to you, and even if you don't have them, you will be equipped for it). All He wants is your heart and your dedication. And you'll finally find that all the fear you had about your academic achievements (or the lack of) and capability is needless. The extent of His grace and full sovereignty over your life just sinks in. Everything you face in life is in His full control for He has provided and will provide everything you need for the battle. Most of all, He will never let you go through what you cannot endure.

Thank You, God.
