The Year of Sabbath is coming to an end and FCBC is gearing up for an exciting year ahead.
I can't wait. Next year's gonna be wooohoooo! This series of sermons - The Magnificent Obsession - that Ps Khong launched 3 weeks ago forms the basis of what we're going to do, beginning the end of this year.
The Magnificent Obsession: Seek First the Kingdom of God
(1) The Centrality of the Kingdom (07/09/08)
Key Verse: Matthew 6:24, 31-33
The kingdom of God is prominent.
- Most themes in the Bible centre around the Kingdom
- The passion, the heartbeat of God has always been about bringing His kingdom to earth
- The Mosaic covenant (God’s covenant with Moses, the Israelites): Exodus: 19:4-6 (NIV) > right from the beginning of time, it has been in God’s heart to establish His kingdom on earth.
- Psalm 145:11-13, Daniel 6:26
- Luke 1:31-33, 4:43, 10:8-9
- Matthew 3:2, 4:17, 9:35, 10:7, 5:3, 5:10
- Acts 1:3
The Church has fallen into the trap of just preaching the gospel of salvation but God’s concern is to establish His kingdom on earth in EVERY nation, to the ends of the earth, to restore the fall of creation since the fall of Adam and Eve.
- Acts 1:7-8, 8:12 19:8, 28:23
- Matthew 6:10, Revelation 11:15b
What Does It Mean For the Kingdom of God To Be Prominent?
- An absolute devotion to the Kingdom of God.
“The kingdom of God’s redemptive love, righteous, justice, and shining holiness pressed into every facet and dimension of human endeavour.”
- David Swartz, The Magnificent Obsession
It is very easy for us to enter into this calling/transformation phase for Singapore with a wrong attitude.
- It’s not about us, but the Kingdom of God.
- Only God can bring the kingdom of here, but He wants us to be part of this, to give our all.
- There is a dark side to this transformation: there is a price for each of us to pay – the sacrifice of ourselves and possible persecution.
Are we ready?
