"HEALER" - Hillsong

Sarah, this post is so gonna shock you (if you haven't heard of it yet). Mike Guglielmucci (the songwriter who composed "Healer") is not ill with terminal cancer. It has been confirmed.

However, word is that he could have Munchausen's (check out Wiki for it), a psychiatric disorder in which the individual seeks attention and care from people around him through faking an illness.

I am certainly not justifying that his actions are valid just because of his disorder, which would be equivalent to arguing that an accused who claims innocence for his wrongdoing should be acquitted by reason of insanity. No doubt, his actions have major repercussions on the Christian worship community, possibly at an international level. But perhaps we should take a step back* and let him give us the benefit of the doubt, if he is mentally sound and intellectually capable of doing so, that is. God is most certainly doing something in his life at this point of time.

I have to make myself clear though. This post has not been written with the intention of criticizing anyone but written only with the hopes of attaining clarity. To be honest, it's all too easy for anyone, especially myself, to get wrapped up in pointing fingers, to jump on the bandwagon, casting stones at Guglielmucci. Putting it into words enables one to reflect and ponder on the issue at hand (at least it does for me, haha). And mulling over this issue only made me realize how easy it could have been anyone else who might have been in the wrong. How easily I might also fall in the near future. And not to mention the various different ways a spiritual leader could fall.

But most certainly, "Healer" is no less true in describing who God is*, in spite of what Mike Guglielmucci did. God is no less faithful, no less powerful, no lesser than all we will ever need. He is still our everlasting God who loves us with an enduring love and heals all our disease. (So why must they revoke the song from the album?? I'm not gonna return my copy of the album no matter what.)
